I have to say Im a fan of his great creature -designs for a good decade now! On facebook he posted some WIP pictures directly from within zbrush the other day, which presented the rough base for my creation, which Id like to share with permission from Pascal.

With the coloring I went for another tribute to a master of 3d illustration, named Steven Stahlberg.

The inspiration for the idea was the eighties movie "the gods must be crazy" [link] where a traveling Bushman encounters modern civilization and its stranger aspects. I liked the idea of having a Shaman or Oracle worshiping modern products as something magic, which is similar to how children perceive our technological environments.

This should also make us think about how dull we are to our everyday technology and appreciate our achievements a little more.

Or to say it with the words of the blue-red spider: "with great powers comes great responsibility."

The title is Seraphim: Carpe Noctem. The general description wants the main character Seraphim to be portrayed without having the cover look too much like vampire cliche. The red hair is clearly the center and was besides the cloth the most difficult part. I am really glad how this one turned out especially for the short timeframe this had to be realized.

One issue was the problem of lighting in this scene, but then again its illustration, finding a solution that allows to believe its full moon and so bright that you can see the important parts is a really difficult task. If it would be rendered too realistic, there would possibly only a glowing outline around the dark silhouettes be visible. My key argument here was the mist: its fully believable that mist can reflect strong moonlight in a way that turns the night into a day.

In the end I did also the typography and layout, usually I have nothing to do with that part of the publishing process.

Im sorry that ~Lady-Moriendistock has become a victim of this study of body modification.

To my excuse I have to say its for a bigger cause, to save humanity and visualize how genetic experiments will turn us into primal monsters rather than serving any good.

This series and piece is inspired by some lyrics from "In Flames":

Detonation
fireworks and alchemy
Genes spliced and triggered
into the future
and her organic save
Seismorgasmic omnipotence
scenes of magma in my eyes
Eruption stones my system

I owe this to the animal inside
and the stiffness that blocks out the daylight
Morphing into primal

Ill cover every particle
from there to Andromeda
not forgetting a single location
from the throat of the Ibis
to the co-ordinates of Matterhorn

My shot is genesis and catharsis
Penetratonaut in a cosmology of lusts

I owe this to the animal inside
and the stiffness that blocks out the daylight
Morphing into primal

Suck this subterranean creature out
and show it proudly to the house of heaven
With one slight wave of my hand
stars dissolve

Dissolve my brain
Block my lungs
I`ll die from fever tomorrow
when locked in such a perfected "now"

Sam is an intriguing character, full of haunting facettes.
This is a depiction of her sleeping, shes kind of sleeping for a very long time, the amulet gives her magic warmth as she is sensitive to coldness.

Other than that its inspired by a piece from *janaschi, but I couldnt resist to pay her a little tribute.
The character and her appearance just screams for such a pose and setting, since Sam has more hair than any human can have and a beauty that cant be better depicted than in such a perspective.

And btw. she has no belly button, long story.

I decided to make this a series, with this being the third and gladly the final part. I had in mind to make a triptychon out of these, so they might look fabulous bonded on a wooden block frame beneath each other.



Muse was =faestock this time, the rest is from my own library, Paris, Copenhagen and Vienna.

While the other piece was more subtle with the subtraction layer method, this one is only partially solarized, you need to have the printed full size version in front of you, to catch all the little details and figurines, it feels like what Kris Kuksi does just with photomanipulation;-)facebook

this one stands for the times in which we go through the inner spheres of our mind, to fix the wrong memories and do a restart, right from scratch.

this one is a very crazy mixed media work, actually its as much digitally done as also traditionally, so who the heck needs a mixed media category when in the end it either digital or traditional has to be? mixed media is both, -get it and fix this option as a resolution for this year[link]
i did a manipulation with coloring and texturing on this first, then printed it out, cut it in pieces, and put them together, re-photographed it an postworked it in PS, again printed out and finished with a semi-glossy finish to be framed and also a band was "really" put through on the back of the corset! -thats what make this print original.

Again a plastersculpture piece, which is photographed and postworked in photoshop.

all done by myself, using plaster and trash to workout the whole sculpture, physical airbrushing and painting with acrylics and also collagework was involved...

the postwork in photoshop was just cropping, sharpening, and colortone changing....

check it out!

the main concept in those works is to bring life into a "stillife", in the most cases, by using the viewer to get an idea of a story, from which this images can tell...
thats meant with"movement"

also there are all in all 12 artworks, 3 blue,3 yellow and 3 red ones plus 1 orange, 1 violett and 1 green piece to complete the primary and secondary color-palette.

again a newer one,This one is a pencil illustration,on canvas/papercollage,recomposed in photoshop,and partially painted over with wacom...

the concept i started with was to combine a finished with an unfinished part in one piece,but the Medusa idea came at least,i thought it was an interresting touch to not focussing the snakes, but yet adding a motion or interaction with them,and as always you know i love to reinterpret old stuff andso
so hope ya like...;-)

this piece is dedicated to my friends here at DA,its a little pleasure for me to share this because these deviants ARE special!
and im proud to have some well known artists involved within,
,even when its not that obviously, itwas really hard work,but i think it was worth to wait,to get all the permissions!!!

to use some hundred icons for a mosaic is maybe more simplier than doing this here,with just a few selected(when you can count 127 as a few),and the permission granting-run was the horror itself,also another thank you for the nice guys and gals who had replied in the forum to use their icon,...actually 132 icons went into this,but i have spent over 4 days with moving the icons up,down,left,right,and back,to get the right mood, and color composition,its like a real mosaic,every single piece has to fit the whole...phew!!!

this lil work should be an expression of appreciation of the fellow deviants ive met here in the time im around,some of them are closer friends,some not,some are highly influencial,and a great inspiration,but they are not selected randomly,mostly i stay in a direct covering to the deviants whose icons gone into this work...

and to underline there are no white and black-only icons gone into this,whithout written permission,the white spaces are no icons!!!!!

]]> one thing to declare first;this is not yet another mosaic piece,(therefore only the half face...)
this piece is dedicated to my friends here at DA,its a little pleasure for me to share this because these deviants ARE special!
and im proud to have some well known artists involved within,
,even when its not that obviously, itwas really hard work,but i think it was worth to wait,to get all the permissions!!!

to use some hundred icons for a mosaic is maybe more simplier than doing this here,with just a few selected(when you can count 127 as a few),and the permission granting-run was the horror itself,also another thank you for the nice guys and gals who had replied in the forum to use their icon,...actually 132 icons went into this,but i have spent over 4 days with moving the icons up,down,left,right,and back,to get the right mood, and color composition,its like a real mosaic,every single piece has to fit the whole...phew!!!

this lil work should be an expression of appreciation of the fellow deviants ive met here in the time im around,some of them are closer friends,some not,some are highly influencial,and a great inspiration,but they are not selected randomly,mostly i stay in a direct covering to the deviants whose icons gone into this work...

and to underline there are no white and black-only icons gone into this,whithout written permission,the white spaces are no icons!!!!!

this is the fifth one of this series i used to make of the phase5 theme, this is again an older one,fitting into the scene,as the insects,and rest of intelligent life on earth uses cyborgs as ships and platforms to life and travel...this one is almost formed like an insect itself ,maybe the most giant leap in the achievement of the insect- development...O_o

cyborgs are the host of insects,the only rest of intelligent live on planet earth after the big bang...


as the title says,there are at least five works intended to fit this theme... this is the last so far...number five!
